Dirt City: Developing Infrastructure for Routes and Trails in New York City

Dirt City is a project to promote the use and development of soft-surface trails across New York City for running and recreation. This effort is founded on the belief that soft-surface trails provide a public health benefit for New Yorkers by increasing accessibility to the outdoors and replacing recreational activity on hard surfaces that can increase bodily injuries.

This is intended to be an ongoing and developing project that will grow and organize with available resources and partners. Beginning with sharing education about existing trails, the long-term goal of the project will be to improve maintenance of and increase investment in existing and new trails in New York City.

In the past, we have hosted guided trail runs across Brooklyn. Future events will be shared on Instagram, Strava or the Events page.

More information coming in 2025.
